You'll need easyubuntu (google it on how to get it etc) to get your audio working (mp3) in amarok.

google a porgram called " easyubuntu" download it, and install it, make sure you select everything you want installed (especially the "extra repositories")

Follow the instructions, then enter (copy/paste) this command in your konsole (it's faster this way then when you search them all in Adept)

sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.8-plugins;sudo apt-get install;gstreamer0.8-lame;sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.8-ffmpeg;sudo apt-get install lame;sudo apt-get install sox;sudo apt-get install ffmpeg;sudo apt-get install mjpegtools;sudo apt-get install vorbis-tools;sudo apt-get install w32codecs;gst-register-0.8

If you have any questions, feel free to post.

This will btw also install firefox if you select Flash and Java!

Congrats on getting your linux system installed. As Sphere suggested you could use EasyUbuntu but if you want more features install Automatix,

run in the konsole, after installation of the ATI proprietary driver (easiest to be done with easyubuntu):
#sudo aticonfig --initial
and reboot :yahoo:

You can get it with easyubuntu (see earlier post)

Concerning networking, you need to install the following apps (THROUGH ADEPT!!)

samba
smbfs

Make sure you select them both, because they don't seem to depend on each other.

you can check if your ATI driver works by executing in the konsole:
#fglrxinfo

btw, I always put a # in front of a command, this # is not part of the command! :yahoo:

xmms is a bit like winamp, but please try amarok! you'll get hooked!

and winrar might be compatible, but Ark can do anything... in compression :yahoo:

yes, k3b is burning, forget Nero for Linux!

for Office, there's always OpenOffice
