Yeh, you got the 64bit version of it installed? if so, it takes a bit of a hacked installation. Otherwise you can install it easily.

If you have the 64bit version, let me know, I'll explain how to install it...

Yep, got the 64bit version. A tutorial would be grand. Do we have a tutorial thread here somewhere?

For *ubuntu, you can install Skype through Automatix2.

http://getautomatix.com/

Quote

Installing Automatix2 with Apt
Installing on (K,X)Ubuntu 6.10 i386,amd64 (Edgy)

From terminal do the following (ONE LINE AT A TIME HITTING ENTER AFTER EACH STEP):

echo "deb http://www.getautomatix.com/apt edgy main" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list
wget http://www.getautoma...apt/key.gpg.asc
gpg --import key.gpg.asc
gpg --export --armor 521A9C7C | sudo apt-key add -

To finish off:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install automatix2
Then open Automatix2 and install

Brewin:
I hate automatix...
But anyway, it's not available for ubuntu64 currently

anyway... you should download the debian Skype package from the skype website

Then, you install it as a local package (forced, ignore dependency's)

Then you start it in a konsole, you'll get an error for missing libraries.

I'll see if I can pack my libraries for you... but I'm afraid it's gonna be too big...

But you can search for ubuntu packages (can't find the link right now)

Search for the package Skype is complaining about it's missing, download the i386 version and do the following:
# ar -x packagename.deb
# tar -zxvf data.tar.gz
# sudo cp usr/lib/* /usr/lib32

Repeat those steps for all packages skype wants

That should work usually

Yes it is and it works well for installing Skype and a lot of other hard to install programs.
