http://www.istartedsomething.com/20061004/...desktop-aurora/

"The wonderful Dave Vronay from Microsoft’s UX team has submitted this great tip to me after constantly nagging him about Desktop Aurora. With a bit of persistence, it has finally paid off. With this practical yet simple method, you can emulate the look of Desktop Aurora without any system modifications or heavy impact on performance. However, it must also be said that this approach is very flawed, as it has several downsides that makes it impractical to use for extended periods of time. But who cares, you can only get so much of eye-candy anyway."

a fun thing, untill MS issues an "ultmate extra" of this type. the "aurora desktop" still has a fan base, though the "dreamscene" thing seems to capture it's essence...

* The Windows Vista default background, animated (installed with Windows DreamScene Preview)
* A field of thistle, with a bee gathering pollen
* The rushing water of a forest stream
* A streetlamp reflected in a puddle, with softly falling rain
* Orange wisps flowing in a computer-generated scene

FYI, Microsoft today released a content package in the ultimate extras for download. It is like 50 mb. I'm installing right now, hopefully it will have some nice content for us and maybe the program will be slightly more stable has mine has locked up a few times.
