images/news/amd.jpgAMD has slashed prices across its consumer-oriented Athlon 64 product line. All Athlon 64 X2 processors are now below the $200 mark, with a number of cores dropping near or below $100 for the first time. The top-end Athlon 64 X2 6000+ has dropped 27 percent from $241 to $178, while the 5200+ model dropped 24 percent, from $178 to $136. The 4400+ fell $27 to $94, while the X2 4000+ falls to $73, from $104. All quoted prices are for 1,000-unit tray quantities.

Price List effective July 9, 2007

I wish you good luck, socket 939 CPU's are pretty hard to find. In Canada at least. I want to get a FX-60 to have the best socket 939 system I can without having to change my motherboard (bought it last fall) and the only place I can find one is on eBay and they're f_ing expensive.

My situation is similar to yours, i dont want to buy another mobo, i like my humble A8V... but i need a CPU faster than my old Athlon64 3000+. I am thinking of getting the AMD X2 4800+, which is afordable, has a decent performance and is quite overclockable... but as ya said is not easy to find.

AMD has a 2 week jump on Intel.
Sorta like a sell off the old technology sale.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ (Socket 939) ~ US$ 190,00

This is the best price i could find in local stores here, but i think i will drop in the next weeks.

That's not bad, I think it's already nice you found one. I have upgraded from 3000+ to x2 3800+ at a little less than that price less than a year ago, I think your upgrade would be worth it. I really see a difference with the dual core. But I want to cry when I see the am2 3800+ selling for 69$ CND :lust: Also, DDR2 prices have dropped dramatically. It was the only thing drawing me back from upgrading to am2 last fall when I changed mobo and CPU. Now I kinda regret it... Today it would cost me less than what I paid for a more performant am2 system then the 939 I have :)
