Since I've installed my Dominator modules I'm trying to clock them @ 1066 (or more) but couldn't pass 1000 MHz. I already tryed a lot of different configurations of FSB and CPU/RAM ratios, but no boot over 1000 MHz. I already relaxed the timings from 5-5-5-15 to 6-6-6-18 and nothing. They're suposed to work with 2.1 V, but to get them clocked @ 1000 MHz I had to put them at 2.3 V. I can live with them @ 1 GHz, but I'd like to know what a hell is going on, 'cos I've seen reviews of this memory @ 1200 MHz or even more. :cc_surrender:

Maybe there's a compatibility problem with my mobo (P5W-DH) or BIOS version (2901).

What do you think ?

Try switching Command Rate to 2T if your running it at 1T, also give a little more juice to the Northbridge :)

I had this board for a long time and it was a great clocking board, but one of its main faults, was instability with all four RAM slots filled, you will find that the RAM runs 1200+ with only two slots in use.

Try and up the MCH voltage 1 or 2 notches also.

Make sure Memory Remap feature is set to Non-32bit if your running a 64bit OS.

Upgrade BIOS to 3001.

Generally you want as much memory as you need in as few modules as possible with this board.

Sadly my configuration is 4x2GB :cc_surrender:

Current settings:

DDR 2.3V
FSBT 1.4 V
MCH 1.65 V
Memory Remap ENABLED

~to be updated~

I tryed everything and still no go. :)

With the settings bellow it boots, but crashes loading Windows. :)

DDR2: 2.40V
FSBT: 1.50 V
MCH: 1.75 V
VCore: 1.40 V
Timing: 6-6-6-18

Although, I'm still using BIOS 2901.

~update~

I've just tryed to upgrade the BIOS to version 3001 but Asus Update Tool couldn't complete the job. It had already erased the damn thing when it crashed. Now I can't turn my rig off untill I find a way to record the BIOS again. I'm weired with that. :cc_surrender:

Never flash a BIOS within an OS!!

Recover the BIOS using the BIOS recovery procedure from the Motherboard CD.

Open your primary optical drive and insert the CD that came with the board. Shut down the system, unplug the PSU from the wall, push the power button to discharge your PSU. If you didn't set your system to boot from the CDROM first, unplug your hard drives. Then plug the PSU back in to the wall, and power the system up. It should boot from the CDROM and reload the shipping BIOS on the CD. Then you should be good to go.

I've had sucess with Asus Update before, but from today... Never more !

It's fixed. I just had to copy the ROM file to a floppy disk and reboot.

*************************

Even with the new BIOS (3001) I couldn't manage the RAM to reach at least 1066 MHz. :)

Thanks Scara ! :cc_surrender:

I'd be removing 2 sticks of RAM and then seeing how far the remaining RAM will go, if it passes the test, then its the old '4 slot occupied problem' that's plagued quite a few DDR2 boards.

I tryed with two slots but no sucess at all. At 1GHz there's a performance loss of 6%, but I can live with that. :cc_surrender:

You could just have bad sticks, Corsair has a lifetime warranty, I'd take advantage of it. :)

Lots of clocking help for your board available at this thread: http://www.xtremesys...ad.php?t=110193

Be prepared for some long reading, its huge :cc_surrender:

I'm gonna contact the reseller and try to change the sticks.

Thanks again :cc_surrender:

:mail1: >> me

I contacted the reseler but the model I took isn't compatible with my board. I made a mistake getting model CM2X2048-8500C5D instead of CMD4GX2M2A1066C5 or TWIN2X4096-8500C5D. The reseler guy said that I was really luck to get the modules working at 1000 MHz / 2.4 v. Anyways my system is a great performer and when I spend more money on it... will be to get a good DX11 card.

I decided to set memory @ 925 MHz / 2.3 v, what made possible a higher CPU frequency (370*9 ~ 3333 MHz / 1.4 v).

Pretty stable after 8 hours loaded running a FAH SMP and a GPU client, though PCWizard indicates CPU (Tc) at 56 ºC and cores (Tj) at 78~80 ºC, what is a bit hotter than specified in product datasheet (Tjmax = 76 ºC ).

:mail1:

~update~

Currently stable (and hot) at 3405 MHz (378 * 9 ~ 1.4v) w/ RAM @ 946 MHz / 2.3v.

I'm gonna order a new cooler.
