Hard-drives are growing a LOT in size and also we see them gaining some performance speed in data transfer.

Current hard drive technology works by storing information on the surface of the disc, and it's rapidly approaching the point where squeezing more information on a single platter is going to be impossible with current techniques.

With all this in mind guess what barrier looms closer? By 2008 we are promised that the Tetrabyte mark will be broken and with a new system for hard drive storage, nothing will be stopping the growth in size and still speed of data transfer.

WHOO!

peta is 1024 terabyte's

computers go up in 1024 where we think in 100's/1000's

1024 bytes= 1 kilobyte
1024 kilobytes = 1 Megabyte
1024 Megabytes = 1 Gigabyte
1024 Gigabytes = 1 Terabyte
1024 Terabytes = 1 Petabyte
1024 Petabytes = 1 Exabytes
1024 Exabytes = 1 Zettabyte
1024 Zettabytes = 1 Yottabyte

what's funny about all this is

kB
MB
GB
TB
PB
EB
ZB
YB

only Kilobyte has a small letter in the abreviation

Binary is a whole different story... if you want me to I'll put that up as well.

first off you have kb and KB because theres kilobits and kilobytes, thats why u have that. Second, with the approach of HD-DVD , it will ineviteably take up more space so thats why you'd need that. In addition to businesses archiving and saving mass amounts of data. You have to realize we arent the only ones using computers.

okay sorry, I was wrong kilobyte is KB

It is commonly abbreviated KB, kB, Kbyte, kbyte, or very informally, K or k.

Yous know about Perpendicular storage ? Hard disks still have allot of life left in them, PS will allow for a terabyte + on standard 3.5I Hdds.

I personally keep thinking, oh i won't fill my Hard drive, but we do...you know why?

Cos we just think, oh i got 10GB more there...lets whack some more useless stuff in there.

We probably only NEED 60% of the stuff (less really but i'm being kind)

I remember a couple years ago I had a 20 gig hard drive filled to 15 gb, and it hovered around 15 gb for nearly 4 months...Then i buy a new computer, and a new hard drive thats 40 gb...next thing you know i'm up to 30 gb! I was totally ******* surprised!
My main computer has two 80 gb hdds that is filled to about a total of 70 gb...luckily i have a dual layer dvd burner to free up some space :P

my dvd burner is single layer but its not asif dual layer media is well priced, i can get more GB per $ buying single layer dvd media ;)

I tend to fill my 120gb and both my 200gb partitions monthly so i go on dvd burning rampages that last well up to 2 hours

Unlimited ADSL - oh how i loath thee :P

Oh, you mean that one where they line up the magnets on end instead of paralleled?
