Tell me, those of you who know a bit about servers, if a Intel Celeron D 340 2.93GHz Processor would be a good choice for a Webserver? I will be hosting a webpage as well as an FTP site and POSSIBLY a mail server... not too sure yet. Let me know please... Thanks :P

Celerons are okay....if you had a bit more money, get a Xeon....they are way better....

But in your price range, it's excellent

Hey shadow, may i ask where you are getting a celeron 2.93 and motherboard combo for 69.99 at? that is a great deal, i wouldnt mind having that myself. and for the web server, that is PLENTY. I am running it on a 2.53 celeron with 533 fsb. Just make sure you have at least 512 ram. That is the key on a good running machine. and i wish you luck on your router/modem combo problem. I am still thinking about that one.

actually we ran server 2003 standard with 128mb ram and 20GB hdd, not for a webserver i agree, but for a quick printer/file sharer it was excellent, though patrick is right about the 512mb with anything like Active directory, that really can kill a server without a good spec

it's well over 512 Mb it's not quite 1 gb though... but I have been talking to a friend who has told me where to get some ram cheap :)

I dunno if I'ma get that board though... I may have found a free one! Not sure of the specs when I get em I'll post em.

What do you think the minimum req. should be? I know I have 512mb + on ram and a 200 gb HDD. I will be getting a linksys wireless G when my credit card is paid off as well.

My Mums p2 450 would be enough to host a http with php and perl / ftp and mail server lol.
You dont need a Gutsy PC unless your hosting a php Forum and looking at thousends of hits per minute and hundreds of active users.
