This isn't much of a guide but a informative post.

If you don't like your ADSL / Cable Router then if you have an old PC lying around like a Pentium 2 or a K62 with a hdd atleast 1gb in size you can try out IPcop.

Ipcop is a firewall broadband gateway that uses Linux, you download the ISO and literally install it as the OS and it runs as a Gateway automatically, its also not the easyest thing to install but its well explained on the ipcop website, in a nutshell it has color zones for the different zones of the LAN.

I aint doing this personaly since i dont need to, maybe one day i will, since an old PC can own a router in NAT table performance when you use p2p and have like 1000 connections running.

Their are Also Addons for IPcop like VPN support, Advanced Proxy Support and it has all the bells and whistles like traffic shaping and prioritisation and port forwarding.

Another little addition to this....if anybody has an old system laying around but doesn't have a small hdd they can part with, I've got a completely wiped 2Gb sitting in my room. I just don't have a system to throw it in (I'm using a Gateway case, with the sideways hdd cage, it sticks out just a little too far, maybe half an inch), so I'd be glad to let it go for the cost of shipping. And Jay, I know you've got the systems for it, if you want it, come and get it with the wireless card!
