Google's credo has always been "Do no evil." But is it still true? Has it ever been true? Is Google evil?

I don't think they're evil. But I kinda wish that they'd never gone public.

Yeah, I don't think they were evil before the IPO. But when you have shareholders, it's impossible not to go to the dark side.

This is what got me thinking about it:

And more specifically this:

I used to love the idea of a Google Operating System. But I think Gmail reading my emails in the interest of targeted ads is more than enough. I'm not sure I want them scanning my hard drive. Better to be paranoid than complacent.

Yep. If an old woman falls down in the street, it'd be illegal for them to help her up before searching her purse for cash first. The beat goes on.

Maybe they're engaging in all this crap in order to truly destroy the TelCo's. If so, hats off and godspeed. Fighting fire with fire and all that jazz. I'd root for Vader against MaBell every day of the week.

Yeah, at first I liked Google because it was the little guy that was standing against the giant Microsoft. But now that it's become equally giant, it seems to be willing to become equally evil...

You know we see this over and over again. Small business = friend (aka good guy); big business= foe
