the red lead on the multi touches to the red or yellow wire on the molex, the black lead goes to the black wire on the molex

ok, so i have the multimeter and i'm set to do the test, but i don't see how i can put my system at load if the only way to get it to boot up is without a graphics card. any ideas?

boot it with your "insert" key pressed down, that usually makes it boot directly to the BIOS.

Only works on ps/2 connected motherboards afaik

you can check your bios voltage readings, and if you have the meter on, w/probs inserted into a molex, you will be able to see any big changes happen when the video card drivers load.

ok, so its deffinetly the graphics card thats bad, and i decided to go to best buy and grab one just to make sure (i plan on returning it). unfortunately the drivers are giving me issues. I'm trying to get rid of all old drivers before i try to install new ones on this card. I ran ATI's utility to clean out all drivers, but it left the one that is the actual driver. when i try to get rid of this using add/remove programs, it just says "Error initializing". i don't know how to proceed.

start in safe mode. you can then delete the 3rd party/3D driver.
how did you determine it was the graphics card?

pretty darn cheap there, though i'd be inclined to spend a little more and get one of the 8000 series cards...

I am staying away from the drm infested card for now, hopefully drm is on the way out and I can skip that generation of card.
