I get National Geographic and Discovery in HD and they are awesome. What's even better is that I get them free for some reason.
i was talking re purchased media on a proprietary medium, not over the air...unless you get free copies? heck, i'm sure it will all become commonplace at an acceptable price in the near future. i guess i am concerned that an alternate option was not adopted, and not because of inferiority, but because of "lobbying", and the possible passing on of inflated costs by the manufacturers because "it's blue-ray, after all..."

looks like some taller storage/video transfer #s for blueray, and also blue is much more drm friendly...perfect for it's intended usage.

The choice of the HD format, for me anyway, is of little consequence. I have not bought a movie in many years and the last ones I did buy were at Blockbuster(?) and it was buy two get one free so you know these were not new releases. With digital cable (no premium channels), I have more movies than I have time to watch. My TV set is a 32" but is 7 years old so needless to it is not HD. I would like to get an HD TV and the digital HD conventer from Comcast. I understand that Natioanl Geo, Discovery, Sports, etc are fantasic in HD. The barrier is still the cost of the entire package starting with the TV. It is a bit hard to justify that much expense for something used 5 or 6 hours a week...talker.

well, it's a bit early for me to adopt for desktop use, as burners are in their infancy, and i'm still on the fence re a new hd camcorder. maybe in another 6mos, as was mentioned (or by the next holiday season), we'll see price drops/new hardware. anyone got any hd camcorder suggestions?

Buy them while there hot then, cuz I believe the price will sky rocket now that they are the only game in town.
Toms Hardware Has the news. A quick quote
Quote
Pricewatch - Blu-ray Disc players from Samsung, Sony and Sharp are now the most expensive they have been all year, presumably because HD DVD's exit from the high-def disc arena has removed some of Blu-ray's pricing pressure.
