Linux is still sometimes a new concept to many. Will it get to a point where it settles and people see it as a valid alternative?
I think that depends on what the makes of each flavor bring. With Vista and OSX what niche is there going to be?

It'll never find its nitch cause theres too many distro's of it floating around.

I think maybe... the different distro's also gives a variaty of options as what a user can choose from...

Well I agree all things free are good but they have thier fall backs.... but as Ryan said there are too many distros to keep track of, we need to start weeding out some of the "not so important" ones and we may see it start to take off

i think that Suse, ubuntu and similar already stand out. Linux just needs a place and a real role. Servers seem to be the current place for Redhat and it works very well.
