I think as Wi-fi in major cities and hotels becomes more widespread and broadband is becoming cheaper and easier to get, 56k will disappear. Dont forget the 200mb connection soon to be available in the UK via your Power outlets!

nope... considering we don't even have dsl in some areas and STILL don't have Cable TV in certain areas.. I doubt 56k is going anywhere.

I think it'll disappear coz the lowest broadband speed is as cheap as 56k. Plus people dont dont wanna interrupt their telephone line for internet.

It's not the prices that keep people from having highspeed... it's the availability, I am STILL waiting on damn Verizon to update the phone lines here so I can have DSL, Comcast said we could have Cable but we ned X ammount of people out here that want cable too, so it's kind of hard to get EVERYONE to help US out and get something I can use so I'm stuck with 22.5k it varies from day to day too. It's not that the price is killing us it's the companies taking their time doing THEIR part!

True, but as i say, internet through the power outlet might solve coverage issues in the near future?

I predict, that within the next 5 yrs, 56k, will be extinct, and if there is any dial-up left at all, it will be at least 128 k, as many of the dial-ups are already offering boosters. ;)

totally - there might be a few randoms, but eventually telco's will control this by eliminating 56k plans
