Which distro is the most idiot proof....Suse, Fedora, Mandriva?
I want to get into linux, but I seem to be having issues with it. I can get Suse to install fine, but when I go to the first login screen everything is squeezed into just a thin line. Is this because I have a 7800GT GPU?

Feel free to move this where it needs to be, didn't know where to put it.

you might try (with suse), using the "legacy" option for the gpu during install. i had the same problem. ubuntu, kubuntu, etc., are easy to handle, and fun :cool2:

I use Fedora, and have tried several others but have seemed to like this one the most.

Thanks, I'll try the legacy option, if that don't work I'll give Fedora a shot. I have both ISOs.

I think you'd be best of starting with Kubuntu, and as for the GPU, the problem is the nVidia driver, which is proprietary software. I haven't seen the same problem anywhere yet, but I think it's a driver issue.

In the driver set-up for SuSE, you can select your starting driver (this ain't the nVidia driver!), there you must make very sure you select the correct one!

I tried looking for the driver option and didn't find it (suse). I think I made an oops, I didn't pick the advanced install option. I'll try that over the weekend.

I also have a Xandros distro. Will that be a good one for me?

WOOO HOOOO!!!!!! I got SUSe 10.0 up and running
I hate being a newbie.....I forgot to check all the updates availble during install....Somebody please  on me for while!

Hey there othman11, you still using Suse Linux? With 90% of distros including Suse you can add new software to the system. Use Yast to add Apache to your system

I found FC5 has Apache 2.2.2, on disk. I'll be using it as a back up server for a website. It's going on a stand alone box.

Still have Suse on this rig, ordered 10.1 from www.osdisk.com , last night.

You know, I'd like to help you, but I'm lost on FC.... Gimme Gentoo, Kubuntu or SuSE and I know what to do... but now...

I do know what Lino says though. That always works. For SuSE you can select it to be included on install.
