Its unfortunate, but I dont like the new gentoo installer, I also dont like that the stage 3 is the only one that will work anymore, maybe its because im new with linux an particularly gentoo but I installed it to a socket 754 3200 nvidia nforce 3 board with a fx 5200 gfx card with very little trouble all things considered that was in early 2005 now I cant get it to install to my current system.

Random install fail, sometimes right away sometimes after downloading stage once it went to setting up grub.

The Gentoo Installer sucks. A Stage 3 console installation is the only way to do it. Stage 1 and 2 are not supported anymore because they're basically pointless. With a Stage 3, you can get a system up and running in an hour and then run emerge -e system to recompile everything for your hardware. Easier and faster than a Stage 1, with the same results.

Anyway, forget about installing Gentoo for now and just try one of these Gentoo-based distros:

though on my new system, I can't seem to boot it after base installation. The boot hangs after the io-scheduler, or I get an unreadable vga konsole.

Anyone got a clue? I know it's something with Grub setting the VGA/vesa, but at what setting? and does pci-e have any influence?

and it even worse seems Asus sucks for Linux....

*Edit:

That's what my screen looks like when I boot Gentoo.... that's (as you might expect) NOT what I want. I'm desperately searching all the web for an answer. Anybody got a clue, maybe some vga or vesafb setting in Grub, maybe something I need to install before I officially boot the Gentoo?

the nVidia drivers are base-supported. Basically, they're part of the intergrated nForce 2+ support in the kernel... so, they work out of the box so to speak
