i am starting to get excited. my mobo just came today, the memory on friday, and the cpus...i dunno. they are all but awol (quad xeons, 5405s). this will be my first ever intel build. there are certain oddities to this vs the amd dual socket boards i have used: the cpu heat sinks are mounted to the case. that's right, the bolts go through the mobo, and attach to mounting holes in the mobo tray/pan. i don't have the exact pattern in my lian li, but have the adapter plate they provide. unfortunately, tyan deems that the cpus mounting on the board be offset, so i need to use either their adapter on top of the lian li one, or break out the drill, and start hacking at the case...this will be as fun as a barrel of monkeys after an all nighter, but hey, i'm down wit dat :cc_surrender: more info and some pics as things get under way :friends: Posted Image

The reason for the mouting system is due to the massive weight of the usually all copper and VERY heavy coolers that you will be getting with your Xeons. Guessing you are going to wc them? You'll possibly need to drill out eight holes to accomodate, depending on which LL you have.

hehe.no more water cooling! hehehe, strictly on air from here on out. yep, them xeon hsfs are heavey, and they put the sockets right at the edge of the mobo, with a big area unsupported by standoffs. yep, a pain in the (_)(_) hehe.

Hey, sounds good MO. I can't wait for the pics. And don't forget to post a few of you getting frustrated. I can see MB and CPU pics anywhere but frustration pics are a thing to behold. Good luck MO and forgive my current GREEN color over your new system...talker. :friends: :cc_surrender:
