images/news/windows7.jpgThank you for testing the Windows 7 Beta. You're playing an important role in helping deliver the best version of Windows yet. Now, we hope you'll join us for the next part of the Windows 7 journey, testing the Windows 7 Release Candidate (RC).

This is the really fun part of the testing process: you help by simply using the RC. When you do, your PC will automatically and anonymously send our engineers the information they need to validate the changes and fixes they made based on the Beta tests and your feedback.
Read this first

Here's what you need to know before you get started:

You don't need to rush! The RC will be available at least through July, and we're not limiting the number of downloads or product keys. So you have plenty of time.

Installation: If you are running Windows 7 Beta you’ll need to back up your data (preferably on an external device) and then do a clean install of the Windows 7 Release Candidate. Then, you’ll need to reinstall applications and restore your files. If you need help, please see the Installation Instructions.

GET IT NOW!

I d/l x64 this morning. Has anyone tried this on a dual boot? I would like to play but I have to leave the main system in one piece and really can't afford to build a new system just to play... :P

i would not dual boot if you don't want to affect the system. there is something odd and i don't know what it is, but i sense bloat and some slowdowns compared to the previous beta releases...

Thanks Mo, I was kinda thinking that but, well, you know how it is when ya want to play with something new. We often will toss caution to the wind...sigh.... :P

I will definitely agree to that! There is something not quite right in RC?, compared to earlier builds, and it ain't no 'placebo' effect either?

I'm sixtuplet-booting with no problems atm.

And I don't sense any bloat w/the RC. The only other build I had was an early beta and I find the RC to be good all around. With or without Aero on and without turning off any default services or anything I find it quick and responsive on my C2D system w/4gb RAMz0rz.

I've been using it as my default OS for a week or two now.

OK, I was wondering how it would work if I tried an "upgrade" from Server '08 x64 to Windows 7 x64? As you can tell I really want to play but really don't like the dual boot. I want to play all the time. You guys tell me what you think. It will be the rig in the sig... :P
