Well I thought it was awesome. What made you find it "underwhelming", Banjer?
I could detail it but not without spoilers. So here goes:(Spoiler Alert!!)
Spoiler
I thought the magnitude of last season's finale (Starbuck back, the 4 Cylons revealed, etc.) should've been matched with something in the premiere that would be equally explosive. When Tigh imagined shooting Adama, you know every fan was freaking the frak out until we knew it was imagined. That kind of surprise/major plot point/whatever should've been in the premiere of the last season. Instead, we got too much Baltar doing a full 180 in, what, 2 days since his trial? And Starbuck isn't going to shoot Roslin so the "cliffhanger" was kinda weak.
Don't get me wrong, it's still BSG so it rocked. But the two season premieres prior were waaaaaaay better. Season 2's had Lee being thrown in the brig, some backstory of the relationship between Tigh and Adama, Kara and Helo with the arrow on New Caprica, etc. Season 3 had the resistance fighters, the suicide bombing at the police grad. ceremony, Lee being fat lol , etc.
I just think when compared to those episodes, this was one was a bit underwhelming. Just mho.

yeah, it rocked, but it didn't rock and roll. Too much easy stuff, imho. Spoiler talk ahead.

Like the "supposed" innocent comment by Lee while talking to Admiral Adama when Adama proposed that Lee take his wings back----Apollo was watching the flight video of Starbuck's ship blowing up when his dad appeared in the scene. After a tiny bit of dialog, Lee asked, "She (Roslin) is staying in your quarters?" The Old Man responded with, "until 'something or other cancer treatment' is done."
Why do we need to know that President Roslin is staying in Adama's quarters unless they're banging uglies? I think it's because the writers took an easy way out of the cliffhanger. Starbuck is pointing a gun at Roslin after stun nading some guards and charging into her sleeping quarters. Well, we already know that Roslin's sleeping quarters are in Adama's room. Cut to the scene where Adama punches Starbuck out, his tepid trust in her is reduced to nothing, etc., etc., etc., and we now can move onto S04 E02 which will open with Starbuck being knocked the frak out by the Admiral for her attempted murder of the President.
And unless that little Damien-looking kid with the hot mom is the hybrid child, or the Baltar-Six conversations throughout the series have been forewarnings of another "switch going off", it's just not consistent with the story to have Gaius Baltar accept his guilt just because he was brought into a room with 475 hotties. In the show we're all watching, the events of last night's season premiere is only a few days past his acquittal in last season's finale. And his initial ego boost that came with the verdict, when talking to Romo and Apollo, was quickly given way to fear of realizing the difference between the court of law and the court of opinion. His reaction was expected for the character----"What about me?" But get him laid 2 days later and he repents for everything? And this selfish little frakker is willing to die for a kid he doesn't know? Meh. That chick must've been talented.
edit---lol, again I gotta reiterate. It's the best show evAR!! I fear it sounds like pointing out a freckle on Salma Hayek.
If someone wants to black this out, go for it. I'm not sure how to do it lol.
Anyhow, I thought it was obvious that Adama and Roslin were already getting it on before the end of the last season. I think she was staying with him intermittently already as well. That said, it might be convenient atm but I don't think it's the reason why she's there or why they're gettin it on. I think their relationship/boning goes beyond just this plot twist.
As to Baltar's change of heart, I agree that it's a bit quick for the 180 on the religious aspect. However, I think there have been signs of him growing scruples or having pangs of conscience before now so I don't think it's a complete reversal. And hell, being locked into a room with 475 hotties could make just about any guy start believing in a benevolent deity.
