Hi Folks,

We are considering 64bit XP in our business, mostly for speed increasing in our Crystal Reports (some reports take up to 7 hours to complete). All of our crystal report engines in our apps are 32bit, one is able to upgrade to 64bit but all our other crystal apps will remain at 32bit. Should we expect a nice speed increase even if we are still using 32bit Crystal Reports apps ?

As well, we have some Legacy DOS apps (Accpac Plus for Dos), that we use for part of our Accounting Systems. Can you get a dos prompt (by typing cmd at the run command) from XP 64bit, and run a dos app from it ? Most notably we run our dos apps via a batch file to get maximum compatibility and run some commands before the app is loaded.

As well we have some older ODBC drivers that are all 32bit, will I be able to install those ODBC drivers and have them still work ? Of course the ODBC drivers integrate with our Crystal usage, to really its all one big ball of wax between ODBC and Crystal.

Any experience here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Les Elton

Hey and welcome. I don't think you will see much of a speed increase with Crystal reports, but i have no actual knowledge of them on x64 systems. I don't even think Crystal can even take advantage of mulitcore processors. Good luck anyways.

Windows XP x64 hates Legacy Dos apps with a passion. For 64bit operating system to be effective the software must be designed for it

Don't count this as gospel but you are probably better off sticking with the x86 flavor, I mimic Christo in saying I don't think you will see much improvement in the apps specifically, plus with so much going on with your "ball of wax" x64 isn't likely to work well with all that you have. My opinion, surely others will pipe in soon.
