Microsoft has no plans to tweak its Office productivity suite for Linux anytime soon, despite the growing popularity of open source on the desktop, according to a company executive.

Speaking at the LinuxWorld conference in London on Wednesday, Nick McGrath, Microsoft's head of platform strategy, said that the software maker had no intention of porting Office to any of the Linux desktop distributions.

i never thought about this myself, but i would of thought this is a GREAT way to challenge Open-Office and other free alternatives.

MAYBE the words 'at this time' mean that they will try it with office12 or even office13 in the future

Open office kinda grew up with linux...a free alternate for a free alternative...

DOn't know how well office 12 will do if introduced to a free Linux.

Considering that they already make Office for OSX, it's not that big a stretch to port it to Linux in general. My guess is that the "at this time" line is referring to the development of an OSX86 version of Office for Mac.
