With past versions, this issue would crop up once in a while but now it seems like FF gets locked into eating up cycles like crazy. Last I heard, Mozilla had taken a huge step forward to get rid of the memory leak issue. Did they break something with this last update?

It's so bad now that it happens at least once every other day---causing me to exit the browser if I can, hard reboot if I can't.

I guess it's all Opera for now. Anyone else get this and have any ideas as to a fix? thx all.

no issues like that here. mike, are you in vista x64? could it be an add-on you have installed? :)

yep, still in Vista64. But I was getting this in x64 as well before my doze install went to the dark side.

It very well could be an add-on, just not sure. I've been using Forecast Fox, Adblock Plus, and NoScript for a long time. But until 2.0.0.5, it didn't happen nearly as often. When was ...5 released, a few weeks ago or so? That's about the time I started getting it.

I guess I could run for a few weeks with no add-ons and see what happens but , unless there's a conflict between those add-ons and Vista64, it's either my hardware or an issue with ..0.5. And my hardware is working fine with Opera and IE.

Weird. Maybe it's just coincidence and certain sites I frequent are causing it. I was just curious if I'm the only one.

I've noticed an improvement over 2.0.0.4. Pages seem to be rendered faster and it uses less memory. This is in Ubuntu though.

Extensions are generally written pretty poorly, so that could be your problem.

:victory: Nope, none of that MO.

Dave, it's not on particular sites just in general. Purely random. Both cores on my opty max out and the process 'firefox.exe *32' starts using up to 400k of memory. It's caused complete system locks but, usually, I can close FF and that calms everything down so I can continue on.

It's gotta be memory leak methinks. But I never experienced it with past releases, just this one. And it happened on x64 too after I first updated to ..0.5.

Some googling resulted in other people getting the problem with various releases of firefox but no fixes, just documentation of the problem. I'm going to reinstall it (again) and run with no extensions for a while and see what happens.

You already have the best solution there is...Opera, works better anyways, glad someone actually uses it, even if you still want to use FF.

I like Opera just fine. Especially for its free, true web screen enlargement. And user mode is a godsend. But FF is like a pair of old slippers at this point. I will say that speed dial puts the rock in the roll though, that's for sure.

Nvy, thx for the tip. I'll check it out now. :)
