Yes, thanks to BSOD for this:

Believe it or not testers and hardcore users; Windows Vista Beta 2 is already being sent to Escrow. So what does this mean for testers? This means that around the time WinHEC 2006 begins Microsoft will likely be rolling this build out to its TAP users, Tech Beta Testers , MSDN and attendee’s. As of this moment the build stands at 5381.3.

Now that the internal developers have started to put the finishing touches on Beta 2, the labs have began to work on RC1 branch. As you can see in this screenshot , the vbl_ux and other labs are already in the 542x builds .

Upon further news , PPA (Preview Pane Aurora) , Vector Glass , and the much hyped features left out but promised in Beta 2 still arent present in 5381. Will they appear before we get the build, hard to say at this point - the way labs are it can be easily implimented in just a compile or two but seeing as how MS has already moved on to 5421 and up. It will be a safe guess to say it wont be there in Beta 2. Now lets not take away that this is all that matters - honestly i think Vista is shaping up to be a very stable and very secure OS which is what any user wants well before any eye candy. From simply testing 5270 and comparing it to 5342 and 5365 you can see such a vast improvement. So testers keep your head up , some of you might think vista is turning into the Hindenburg but i assure you - your testing and hardwork on Vista will help make it a very stable and secure operating system.

This build is meant for an upgrade over XP SP2 only

So far, 5381 upgraded from XP SP2, seems much faster, no BSOD or Explorer crashes, all seems to be working. I have heard of it being buggy, but i have not run accross that yet. I would say its a build for everyday use :) Kudos MS

I've installed the build. The install process is much faster than other previous builds, I found. However, I did not notice any UI change, compared to 5365. I'll post screenshots later.

22 minute install. no crashes. and a locked down OS...even though this is, to me, a vast improvement over
the last version i tried (5308), still chubby and prophylactic...with a pretty face :) oh, and got a "5" for system rating
