Okay, someone esplain this to me please... I have a Sony Trinitron Multiscan 17sf II and it only supports up to 1240 X 1028 resolution, this si a 17" monitor. I have this monitor that's as old as the hills that's a 14" monitor, I'm not even sure what Kind it is, but it supports up to 1600 X 1200 resolution... what the hell's the deal? The Sony I am using, granted it's not the newset piece of hardware I'm using but It's all I really have, Why won't it support past 1240 X 1028? I want a 1600 X 1200 screen :D and If the 14" wasn't broken I'd probably downgrade, but when ever I add resolutions, through my NVIDIA Settings, I apply them and I get a "Out of scan range" message.

Help?

it seems as simple as it sounds (i think)

Your new monitor being a TFT doesn`t support that high a res compared with more expensive models or some CRT`s out there.

Though i recommend sticking with the TFT

One idea...check Widows is aware of what model your using

17I and 19I LCD's aka TFT's are 1280x1024 native reso and should always be used as such, cept games they're cool no lower than 1024x768

17I crts don't have more than 16.9 Viewable if your lucky and 1280x1024 looks to small so i recommend 1152x864 on those.

If you want 1600x1200 use a 19I CRT.

Your out of scan issue might just be refresh rate, lower it to 60hz first then go back and adjust the reso to 1600x1200.

Tried it all, but I don't have the money for a new monitor period... Although if I did I would get a TFT, I like the look and the fact that they take up 1/8 the space of a CRT.

maybe your PC is reading the DDC info wrong and just thinks your monitor can do 1600x1200 when it cant.

No, I have to change the settings to be able to view it, and it supports up to 1600 x 960 or 980 not sure which one, it just looked funny :D. I dunno, I'll try to get a new monitor when I get some money, that first paycheck I get is going towards bills, oil, gas, and bills :D
