Well, i think i cracked it.

Vista ratings are not just off performance but importantly what features of Vista you can run.

If your Graphics won't run Aero for example, your rating will be badly affected...

I decided to upgrade my graphics card to an Aero compatible one and..........instead of a 1 (the worst rating i am told) i now get a 3!

Nvyseal suggested that if i upgrade my ram from 1GB to 2GB i should get even better!

So, there ya have it.

I get a 3 so far...what do you get?

probably because the WinSAT program itself , Karl , is suppose to benchmark your pc for a hardware minimum that u could run glass on or whatever ..get what im saying? you didnt crack anything its just a simple 1+1 thing ..u bought a better card hence the better rating

I'm wondering why since the Rating system came along, my graphics card memory has dropped for some reason. I have a Radeon Pro 9600 with 128mb and it recognizes it as only 64... :)

I'm not convinced that the rating system is even finalized, especially since it was reported that microsoft was revising the entire scheme for making these ratings.

For the record, I tried Vista on two machines:

Machine 1

AMD Sempron 2800+
1 GB PNY PC-3200 RAM
BFG GeForce 6600 GT OC (AGP, 256MB)
2 Seagate Barracuda 80 GB HDs.

Machine 2:

AMD Athlon X2 4200+
2GB Corsair PC3200 RAM
BFG GeForce 6600 GT OC
2 Seagate Barracuda 80 GB HDs

The odd part is that both machines got the same score (3)

It's not, in fact, microsoft is supposed to change it because people are complaining.

Overall rating : 5
Processor : AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor FX62 - 5.8

Primary hard disk : 34GB Free (44,84GB Total) - 5.3
Graphics : Radeon X1900 series - 5.9
Gaming Graphics : 512 MB Graphics Memory - 5.8

doesn't detect that i'm running two x1900xtx's though, maybe driver issue? or just the test bein vauge.

P4 3.00GHz HT
1.5GB PC2-3200 RAM
ATI X300SE PCI-E 128MB
15GB HDD

overall rating: 3

I think if I put Vista on my 250GB HDD I might get a 4? I'm going to try it when my copy of MCE comes in the mail. I bought it online via newegg.com (click here to see) as the OEM version and I will tripple boot lol, Vista/MCE on a 250 and XP Home on an 80GB :)
