NVIDIA still doesn't have a public DirectX 10 driver for Geforce 8800 GTX. We and a few thousand of lucky DX 10 hardware owners are still waiting impatiently for one.
Nvidia was supposed to have the driver by the end of next week but that is still lookin suspect. Nvidia had to mess up something with the great launch of its G80 wonderchip and is was the DirectX 10 driver that proved the missin link.
The company is concentrating on the DirectX 9 market at the moment but a second part of its inner self tries to convince us that DirectX 10 is the next great thing. Well, we would like to taste it but we kind of miss the driver and games, even benchmarks and demos at the same time.
The clock is ticking and the OEM version of Vista is due in just 10 days from now. We expect to see the new driver this week but we have been expecting to see something before now. DirectX 10 hardware is but a piece of metal without software -a very expensive piece of metal and silicon in fact. µ
