Okay, people... we are finally getting a new backup system in place here at work. The hardware has been decided on. I've gotten quotes from CDW and PC Mall. I'm looking to get a couple more quotes from some other hardware vendors.

The equipment will be all HP.

Does anyone have any suggestions for other vendors to get a quote from? This is a big purchase so I'd like to get some options for my CEO and CFO.

All suggestions are welcome and appreciated...

dang, chriso would be the one to ask, as that is his livelihood @ IBM...what are you going to be backing up (how much of what from where)? or do you mean an extra workstation to step in when the chips are down?

I'm going to be backing up about 3 tb of data. Will be using HP NAS solution with an HP LTO4 autoloader and EMC Retrospect since I have Macs, Linux and windows PCs and servers. There is currently no no network file system in place due to the shortsightedness of the former IT people here and the over-abundance of MAC users. I'm just going to have to retrain them eventually and if they refuse to comply and their computer crashes they'll just be sh*t out of luck with a large side order of 'I told you so'.

The hardware choices have been made. While Newegg has good prices ( I make a lot of purchases there for business as well as personal), they don't have the support in place that CDW or PC Mall has, especially for business customers. they also don't carry all of the necessary hardware.

I'm just looking for a vendor that is similar to PC Mall and CDW to do some comparison shopping.

another vendor that seems to specialize in storage/server stuff, MO and I have both used them and I have high regards for their service etc. is compuvest....just tryin to help V :giggle:
