Me and my dad were thinking of getting my mom a pda for christmas. Like other moms, she needs a scheduler, a place where she can keep memos, not really games or anything like that. Easy to use and efficient and cost effective are keywords here.

What have you all used and what do you recommend for tasks such as the ones above?

Dont get a PDA their going the way of Windows 98 lol , I do advise you to get something that can Run Windows Mobile , something like a smart phone or a handheld. It gives you alot of versitility and for her it will likely be familar dealing with a Windows type interface than PALM's which is different.

I've got a Dell Axum, and really love the lil thing. I use it mostly for GPS in the cars and its also just like an ipod. I have lots of music stored on it.

You can get the basic Palm Zire72 for around $100 - it has the ability to synchronize with either the Palm Desktop or Outlook, and if it's basically to use as a day planner, you can't beat the price. If you are looking for one running Windows Mobile (formerly known as Windows CE), then look for a model running Windows Mobile 2005. The Dell Axim series is consistently the highest rated Windows Mobile PDA, and it about the only thing Dell makes I would actually consider purchasing. The iPaq line is also a very strong contender, but it seems that HP tends to focus on only the newest iPaqs in their lineup and then overlooks older units, so you might want to keep that in mind in terms of support.
