they're here...the new intel cpu (desktop variety) are on the shelves, with not too bad a price. anyone gonna build themselves an i7 rig in the not too distant future?

Hey MO, I thought about it, but right now the timing is not good, and my systems are a little old, but they are "up to snuff" enough to get me by for a year or two longer. I think all manufacturers are going to see a decrease on units sold until the economy gets better.
(Look at the motherboard prices)
Just go to your window and yell as loud as you can, "I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not gonna take it anymore"

As much as I would love to build a new one, my two main systems perform at 100% (3.2 P4 with XP x64, AMD 5200 with Server '08 x64). I would upgrade the 5200 if I could but there really isn't much need....

I'll wait 6 months and get it for half the price

yeah, not much reason for me to do any upgrade either. i'd be more interested in software advances (multi threaded os/apps). this is also the first intel mem controller on die, so at least waiting for the tock of this tick would seem to be a bit more prudent choice for non fanboys. and yeah, the mobo prices...lol

That is a no-brainer. Of course I will. It will be Jan or Feb. though. I hate that AMD boards with 4 PCI-E slots can be had for $150 now and Intel boards only offer 3 slots for $250 more. Insert middle finger emoticon here.

Actually, to get this running...
Is an i7 any good at building a local runner from?
If so, it would save us a lot, and a lot of hassle... reboot and fix all
