Stage 1

OK ...still waiting on parts  but thought I'd start anywayz......so more pics

Let's prepare the board for use before we do anything!.......something I alwayz do with new boards.

Essentials in hand for the job before we begin...

Posted Image

Arctic Clean 1 & 2
Arctic Silver 5
Nose grip pliers
Lint free cloths
Box of tricks
Heavy Duty Velcro (which we will use to mount radiator in front of case later on)

We need to remove the Northbridge heatsink...

Posted Image

And the Southbridge...

Posted Image

This reveals the crappy paste ASUS have used on both......and the lack of it...

Posted Image

Heatsinks off...

Posted Image

North & South all cleaned up and purified...

Posted Image

Likewise with the sinks (North sink was a killer to clean due to foam padding :gsg9: )

Posted Image

AS5 applied to both Northbridge & Southbridge...

Posted Image

Heatsinks refitted minus the pretty tin covers (held on with weak adhesive)........sorry ASUS...but they restrict airflow.....into the bin they go.

Posted Image

Finally.......the waterblock bolts are fitted in place...

Posted Image

The board is now ready for case fitting :talker:

Next up.........case preparation.......soon!

Well tonight I begin mounting the Rad.

I am having to mount externally now as the Rad is 1cm too large to fit in front along with other hardware ;) ...yup....11 drive bays and I'm short by 1cm!! LOL

I have many hole-saws but not the size for this tubing  so I had to order a 7/8 type and it has taken a week to get here :P .....arrived this morning....so after some delay I can now proceed.

Here are pics of the case.....I will be bringing the tubing in through the back just above where the 120 fan is situated.....so little room for error here.

It is big buddy......but I could do with bigger!........LOL :P ;)

Anywayz.........here we go........

First off........prep the case with some plastic to minimise the debris from cutting (less work later)

Posted Image

Lets mark out the holes for cutting....after fitting the base plate I have cut a small piece of tubing to act as a template for marking the holes and masked off the area with masking tape to prevent slipping when drilling....temporary fitting the Rad and drawing around the small tubing gives a good guide for cutting..... :)

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

This is my new Hole-Saw with Arbor to suit.........7/8 (22mm) will do the job.....

Posted Image

Let's drill these holes......... :o

Posted Image

Viola! ......looks good.......and another Warranty destroyed

Posted Image

Fit a couple of rubber grommets to prevent tubing damage and test the size.........looks OK.

Posted Image

Rad fitted :D

Posted Image

Posted Image

I would suggest a better surface than a carpet to do this job on......LOL......lots of hot metal flying about when cutting.......but another lesson learned :talker: :)

Next up.........fitting it all together at last! :P ;)
