Well......I'll start this thread off now and add as we go along......

After my misfortune in May this year....regarding my house break-in......things are moving finally.

I took delivery today of the following components:

1 x ASUS P5W DH Deluxe WiFi Board
1 x Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
1 x 2GB G.Skill DDR2 HZ PC2-6400 RAM
1 x OCZ GameXStream 700W PSU
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 SATA 2 16MB 320GB (Storage Drive)
1 x Sony Black Floppy Drive
1 x NEC AD-7173A DVD+-RW Burner
1 x Logitech Gaming Keyboard
1 x Logitech G7 Laser Cordless Mouse
1 x Coolermaster Stacker STC-T01 Server Case
1 x UV Lighting Kit
1 x Swiftech H20 APEX Ultra WC Kit

All arrived in good condition so no complaints there. :)

Missing are:

2 x WD Raptor 150 Drives (to go in RAID 0 configuration)
1 x Evga Geforce 7950GX2 Superclocked
1 x Viewsonic VX2025 Widescreen 20" Monitor

:yahoo:

So I still have a system I cant use and will have to wait....as its the Insurance that is dealing with the order.

:yahoo:

I also got word today that my Sony PSC200 Digital Camera is discontinued.......so to pick another.

I chose the new Canon Powershot A640 10.0 Megapixel.

I will receive this on Wednesday ;) and take pics for you all to see as I go along with this build.

I kinda feel like the carrot's being dangled in front of the donkey though......LOL.......all these parts....and I cant get using them! :D

Your going to love that 7200.1 drive, Phat did some tests with them and in some cases (no pun intended) they outperform raptors due to the parallel technology with the 3.0 interface.

Do you think that it may be worthwhile grabbing another 2 of them in RAID mode then?.......rather than the Raps?? :)

You can PM phat (@pamd) because he did the exact comparison but when I built my rig he said that some of test he did the Seagate 7200.1 drives beat the raptors, He advised me to get two of them instead of raptors and i did, I am real happy with them. :yahoo:

Here is the review he did of the 750gb drive.

Review

hope that helps :D

I don't have the Raptors yet....but I can change the order :)

Awesome stuff guyz!........thx for the advice :cool2:

I suppose there are 2 other things as a plus to this also:

1. The Barracuda's have more capacity.

2. The Barracuda's have a SATA 2 interface wheras the Raptors do not.

;)

Still something to be said about the 10k RPM though, you get the 150gb raptors with there 16mb cache an they still fly, the barracuda's are about but not quite a match, but they are prolly cheaper.

They are much much cheaper buddy.......and have 16Mb cache to boot :chriso:

Here in UK...the Raptor is selling at £162! (£1.08 per Gig)

The Barracuda is selling at £66.00! (20p per Gig)

That's nearly £100 difference + more than double the capacity.

Slower spindle speed yeah but in RAID it shouldn't matter too much?

hell for the price performance go with the barracuda. thats crazy the price difference.
all things equal in raid you will not see much of a difference, I think.
