Just curious what you guys think about network neutrality. Last night I ended up staying up until 1:30 to finish watching a show on this on PBS. It was a very very well done show and I learned a lot about this subject that I didn't know. If you don't know anythiing about this go check this site out which should help get you up to speed.
here

We need to step up and do something about this!! So, take out a peice of paper and write a letter to your local representative because if we don't tell them how to vote they might not vote right!! If this upcoming law gets passed this could possible be the end of the internet as we know it!! :talker:

Everything this congress has done has been pro-business and against the general public (read anti-American). You can count on them to screw the common citizen again on this issue as they have on every other issue including health care, social security, jobs, taxes, medicare, prescription drugs, ELECTRONIC VOTING MACHINES, etc.

The list goes on and on. If you really want change, you need to get out and vote en masse and make it impossible for them to steal another election!

Very good point voodoo!!

There is a section on that page to sign the petition and you can write a letter and it will automatically send it to your local rep. and senators!!

Man this is BS. I know it won't affect me here in Ireland (at least for the time being) but that is total crap. Even though I'm in another country I'm angry by that.

Mr. ******* Oreilly

Dear Mr. Oreilly:

Thank you for contacting me regarding net neutrality legislation. I appreciate you taking the time to contact me on this important matter.

Net neutrality is the concept that the Internet should not be subject to a two-tiered system of pricing and access. Under a net neutral system, broadband providers would not be allowed to offer faster network performance to companies that pay more for the service. Net neutrality was at the heart of the debate over a broader telecommunications bill, the Communications Opportunity, Promotion and Enhancement Act (HR 5252).

On June 8, 2006, the House of Representatives passed HR 5252 by 321-101 votes without net neutrality provisions. Representative Edward Markey (D-MA) offered an amendment to protect net neutrality during floor consideration by the House. This amendment would have required broadband network providers to operate their network in a net neutral manner. Please know that I supported the Markey Amendment, however, it did not pass. I ultimately opposed HR 5252.

Again, thank you for sharing your views with me and please continue to contact me on this and other issues of importance to you and our district.
Sincerely,

MIKE THOMPSON
