OK, Linux :chriso:

But which distro are u gonna use? and why?

What will u have to do out of the ordinary install to make it work?

Or do we have to wait till it's done?

Well, right now the only thing that is supported well is Yellow Dog version 5. So, I have that downloaded and on a dvd ready to go. As far as the install goes, I read a article on how to do it and it sounds really really easy!!! I'll let you guys know as soon as I get it installed!!

Dave and Scara, it's cool!!!

I'm posting this from Firefox in Yellow Dog Linux on a PS3. It's running at SDTV resolution, so I can hardly see anything, but what I can see looks good. Everything is very responsive. Web pages load really quick. I thought that running Xorg straight from the frame buffer would suck, but it's really not that bad at all. Now I'm really anxious to get a nice big LCD monitor with HDMI. My dad has a new 37" Sharp Aquos, but he won't let me use it. I'd rather have a monitor than a 720p HDTV anyway...

Some interesting info (to me anyway):
[root@localhost ~]# cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.16-20061110.ydl.2ps3 (root@m157) (gcc version 3.4.4 20050721 (Yellow Dog 3.4.4-2.ydl.2)) #1 SMP Tue Dec 5 12:35:42 EST 2006
[root@localhost ~]# cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor : 0
cpu : Cell Broadband Engine, altivec supported
clock : 3192.000000MHz
revision : 5.1 (pvr 0070 0501)

processor : 1
cpu : Cell Broadband Engine, altivec supported
clock : 3192.000000MHz
revision : 5.1 (pvr 0070 0501)

timebase : 79800000
machine : PS3PF

During bootup, there are 8 penguins displayed on the screen indicating 8 CPUs detected. I thought that was kinda cool...

PS3, Linux, and an Xbox360 Controller

Quote

diabolix has successfully compiled an Xbox 360 controller driver for Fedora Core 5. What exactly does this mean? Well if you’re running linux on your PS3 you can now use your wired Xbox360 controller with it! Its been tested with Snes9x and Doom under FC5-PPC.

Copy this installer to your PS3’s HDD linux partition and connect your controller via USB. Run “install-xbox360-driver.sh” initially from the terminal, enter your root password (if you aren’t root already), and viola — a functioning Xbox360 controller on your PS3!

Very cool, diabolix!

Get the driver Attached File  install_xbox360_driver.rar   71.67K   348 downloads

Or from PS3-Hacks
