And welcome back!!!! :

It's been a while since I updated this thread.
After 2 and a half years of many different therapies and medications it has finally come down to surgery. I had the c-6 and c-7 vertebrae fused in my neck yesterday. I was in surgery for approximately 3 hours.
They went in through the front of my neck on the right side and performed an Anterior Cervical Discectomy (ACD).
First they removed the damaged disc that was causing me a great deal of pain in my left shoulder, upper back, left arm and hand... not to mention the chronic headaches.
Then they put a piece of cadaver bone between the vertebrae. They finished off by screwing in a metal plate to hold it all together. Because of the plate, I do not need to be in a halo or even use a neck brace.
I can move my head back and forth and up and down, but I have lost a bit of mobility. It appears right now that the pain is gone in my left hand, arm and shoulder/back but I don't want to say for sure yet until I'm off of all of the current medications and fully recovered.
I then proceeded to astonish the sh*t out of the doctors and nurses by eating solid food immediately after the surgery. I had a steak and fries. They simply could not believe it.
I spent the night in the hospital and I was released today. I can return to work in 4 to 6 weeks. I may even be able to ride my mountain bike again someday.
So good to hear you're doing well, lets hope everything gets even better. WB!

After nearly four and a half years , I've finally reached a settlement for my injuries from my motor vehicle accident. My stress levels have dropped so much afterwards that I feel like a completely different person. I hope that the feeling isn't the onset of schizophrenia.
While it didn't make me a millionaire, I'm satisfied with the settlement and I can say that I'm feeling very secure for my future. Perhaps now I will get the opportunity to do some of the things I've been wanting to do for a long time like moving back to my home town and starting my own business.
I'd also like to thank all of you who expressed your concern when I first posted about the incident.
I will likely still suffer headaches and neck pain for the rest of my life but I believe that much of it will be reduced by the elimination of the stress I've been under.
Though my health insurance at work is really 5hitty and doesn't cover acupuncture I'm going to give it a try even though it will be an out of pocket expense. I know a lot of people who say it changed their lives by relieving various health issues they had. It has also been scientifically proven to work.
I'm open to any opinions on the subject of acupuncture from any members here who have tried it and what the results were.
Live long and prosper!
