yes, the radeon 9800pro would destabilise Even in 2d activity and cause the motherboard to reset itself (not windows really, the mobo would hit reset)

Not every ati card is effected

you might need to run ATI cards on almost any VIA chipset with agp 1.6 volts and if thats not enough then 4x agp aswell.

I'm an unlucky one that had to do both but made no difference to my frame rates, i cant notice any Diff between 8x and 4x to be honest.

Its a Fantastic Motherboard, speedfan works on it aswell, fan ports 1 and 2 can auto control rpm, it even handles a 120mm Delta Fan :)

I went through two boards and had problems with them both. An ASUS A8V and a Gigabyte. I got the A8N as a promotion and it actually works and works good. The first ASUS board was terrible, nothing worked. It kept locking up Windows on startup, the Gigabyte board had problems with the built in NIC's and the built in sound. I couldnt get either to work and couldnt get good help from Tech Support although I have a Gigabyte Sigma board running a P4 3.6 and it is and awesome mobo.

Ah nice. I got A8V, only problem I had was it didnt like my ATI 9550 at first, then I updated my BIOS to 1011 and didnt have a problem after I reinstalled it.

Everything is working great on the A8V so far, no complaints! It's funny though how I could have so many problems with my first ASUS 939 mobo, the A8N but no problems at all with the A8V, go figure... I did everything I could to get that A8N to work but no matter what I did, it just didnt want to cooperate. I upgraded the BIOS, got the very latest drivers for EVERYTHING, reinstalled several OS's, XP 64, 2003 64, multiple times, but damnit if every single time it didnt lockup on the welcome screen, even in safe mode.

Oh well, all is well now and I am happy with my A8V. I also just have to say (not on a 64 bit topic, just general mobo) that the Gigabyte Sigma board is absolutely the best mobo I have ever used. I have a P4 3.6 running on one and damn is that board awesome. I would recommend a Sigma board to anyone (they also come in 939 Athlon64 configs too).

Well I will have to take your word on the Gigabyte board as I'm kinda an Asus fanboy per say. I have yet to have any problems with any of the ones I have bought.

Kelp i used to hate Asus
Asus boards where crap, unstable and well crap.

I dono what motivated me to get an Asus for my socket 939, cept the fact its the only 939 i could find that had extra pATA and an AGP port and all the rest i wanted.

Its turned out to be a very Solid Platform to my suprisement also.
