A friend of mine bought my old pc, for one AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.0 GHz 2x1MB L2 Cache!

My complete system is now:
M/B: Asus M2N4-SLI nForce4 MCP
RAM: 2x Corsair PC2-4200 400MHz 2GB
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.0 GHz 2x1MB L2 Cache
GPU: eVGA nVidia GeForce 9800GTX+ Factory OC'd 1024MB DDR3 RAM edition
Audio: Soundblaster Audigy Platinum 7.1
LAN: Intel Pro 100/1000 S Ethernet

And offcourse, some crappy stuff like PSU, DVD-burner and harddisks.

New System rating, went up from 4.9 (CPU-bottleneck) to 5.2 (HDD bottleneck)
CPU is now 6.1
:cc_surrender: :giggle:

p.s.
That CPU came with a fairly very nice heatpipe cooler! (And LARGE for a stock CPU cooler I'm used to)

For the complete-spec lovers, and the case-mod lovers (Ow how I modded my case... with DuctTape!)
More system fun! New CPU!

Just bit the bullet myself for anew CPU and MB. My FX-55 was getting a bit dated. I'm still trying to decide what RAM I should get. I need DDR3 1600.

ANY SUGGESTIONS OR RECOMMENDATIONS?

I have to HOLLA because getting suggestions around here is sometimes like pulling teeth... :cc_surrender:

Corsair or Kingston! Can't go wrong with those!

But since I don't have DDR3 capable m/b... I don't have a clue

And please stop shouting? It's hurting my eyes!

Awesome response, Sphere... I was actually considering Corsair as my first choice, but it never hurts to ask.

Does anyone know anything about the triple channel kits that are now on the market? If your board doesn't support triple channel, will it default to dual channel, or perhaps only single channel?!?

I haven't been able to find much on this.

A dual-channel enabled board, will always use dual-channel.

If I may revert to my board, here's how the dual-channel will work, with three RAM strips:
Slot A1: Channel 1
Slot B1: Channel 2
Slot A2: Channel 1
Slot B2: Channel 2

That's what my Asus does anyway. It doesn't matter if all slots are taken, as long as you follow the guidelines to dual-channel set-up (thus the A1 and A2 numbered slots filled), it should work.

But I'd advice to go for a triple-channel board if you want the full capabilities when you have 3 strips.

On dualchannel, it's better to go for 4 strips then three, because it'll even out the systems.
I'm thinking, get a dual-channel. The strips support it anyway, the next upgrade you'll make, the new board will probably support upto quad-channel...

Negative... I'm still going with the underdog... It's a Phenom II quad 955 BE and an ASUS M4A79T Deluxe MOBO.

Maybe one day Intel will make a true quad core...

On edit: I'm prolly gonna catch HOLY H3LL for this comment...

First off, don't worry, I didn't actually edit your post. If I did, I would've sent you a PM with a thorough explenation.

Second, see that blue bar under my avatar?
It says "Global Moderator"
That's how I can do that ;)

For once, I actually abused my power, to make the joke. Sorry. I really haven't touched your post at all.
And, btw, what's funny...
If I don't give a reason for editing, you wouldn't get notice it :P

;) yo VG triple channel is only a function of the mem controller/chipset, AMD doesn't as of yet have triple channel controllers (or chipset for that matter). A 6 gig triple channel kit , if it consists of 3x2 gig dimms will run in single(unganged) mode with all 3 dimms installed. The other main caveat here is that with a few exceptions you can't hardly get any newer mobo's with AM2+/AM3 ,to run with all the dimm slots full (8gigs) , finally OCZ has a nice 6 gig DDR3 ,Cl 7 kit out for less than a benjamin . The problem with all 4 slots full haunted us back in the 939 days if u remember and is usually blamed on the on die mem controller, but I tend think it's a prob with both the mem controller and the dram chip config, just as before. I have an Asus M4A79 Deluxe in a drawer cause frankly it sux, it won't even boot with 4 dimms, (8gigs), and I've tried Gskill, Mushkin, and Kingston ram ......good luck homey :P PS I went back to my MSI K9A2 Platinum cause it runs with all 4 slots full albeit at 800 mhz but mine is oc'd to 1012 mhz totally stable......go figure eh?
