Yes everyone, its another networking question. I am exploring new areas in this field for my thirst to know all LOL. Ok enough of that, here is the question. In my house, I have a set of computers running on a 192.168.2.x network. Then, I have another set of computers running on a 192.168.1.x network Finally, i have a server running on a 204.116.x.x ip address (this is one provided from my isp's modem). I want to network all of these machines together. I have a server on the 192.168.1.x network as well. I want to be able to share files and do all of the normal things within a home network on all of these machines. What can i do to solve this situation?

I assume you just want to share files from the server, not every app - correct? If so, you should be able to network them all together, providing that each computer has the same workgroup name. For the files you want to share across the network, I'd suggest consolidating them into one location, and make that folder shared across the network. Having some of the PCs on a 192.168.2.x IP and the rest on a 192.168.1.x IP shouldn't be an issue.

Well, i have tried putting them all on the same workgroup, and it doesnt seem to work.

To run a network on the same IP Subnet you supposed to have all devices on the same 3 digits of the first 3 digits of an IP address.

you will need to run your devices as so...

192.168.0.x
255.255.255.0

Simply number them along the X between 1 and 100

Or Set your Router to 192.168.0.101
and
you can set all devices to use DHCP and enable the DHCP server on your Router, set it up so the ip range is 192.168.0.1 192.168.0.100 on subnet 255.255.255.0 and the gateway to 192.168.0.101
