As promised, Gates and Seinfeld made their television pair-up debut tonight, in an advertisement for something or other.

According to a leaked internal email from Redmond's senior vice president Bill Veghte, this first installment in what will be a series of commercials is meant to function as an "Icebreaker to reintroduce Microsoft to viewers in a consumer context." It seems that the company is following the path they've stamped out with their previous media burst, the Mojave Experiment, which appears to be less concerned with changing the product (Windows), and more concerned with changing consumers' perception of the product. In Veghte's words, "Telling our story means making significant investments to improve the way consumers experience Windows." So here's our question to you: is Microsoft on the right track here? It's a good Idea , but I think they should use this concept for the new stuff and not try to smooze us over on the ... well to be nice, I wish they would "cut bait" and move on. :)

hehe, i think this is what it is supposed to do. vista...is like Me to xp: better stuff going into the os, but implementation is off a bit...that said, if windows 7 is anything like server '08 (you decide which bits to add to the os), they will have a decent platform. server '08 is like xp x64 w/ all the good vista attributes...

A bit like chriso, I did not understand much of it... Seemed to me like a bunch of 'nothing', like they just put Jerry Seinfeld there so people will like the ad and think it's funny just because he's there.

Or maybe I'm really just missing the point and it's actually good? :)

well, if you put it that way...lol, it must be a minor segment in like a multiple installment thing. otherwise, i don't have a clue either... :)

I feel like they were trying to make it like Seinfeld ("The show about nothing"), and missed horribly.
