images/news/mafiaa.jpgAt the request of theatrical film makers, the Federal Communications Commission on Friday quietly launched a proceeding on whether to let video program distributors remotely block consumers from recording recently released movies on their DVRs. The technology that does this is called Selectable Output Control (SOC), but the FCC restricts its use. The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) wants a waiver on that restriction in the case of high-definition movies broadcast prior to their release as DVDs.

I have to agree Mo, the last movie I saw at the theater was "Charlie Wilson's War" with Tom Hanks. Prior to that, it was "The Sixth Sense" with Bruce Willis. That is a span of about 6 years between tickets. Not that some of the movies in those years might have been worth watching but not enough, at least for me, to pay $5.00 to $7.00 a ticket. Not to mention $5.00 for popcorn. As for music, I have not listened to a car radio for possibly 15 years. I use my car, even for short trips, as a prayer/meditation room. No phone, no other voices. It is a rare time in cherished isolation. The music on the radio is oldies that I have been listening to for 30 to 40 years, country which is not one of my choices, or current playlists that one song sounds much like the last song and next one. Needless to say, I am not overly concerned, as a matter of fact, not at all concerned about recording anything from the television or the radio. I have 1000's of songs on my computer and a small collection of CDs. These are all hand picked for different musical needs from elation, mediation, celebration, prayer, mourning, laughing, crying, and so on. What is showing on the "silver screen" or through the airwaves, as a general rule, does none of those things for me. As always, these are just my feelings. I imagine many of you feel differently. I understand and respect that...Bill.

You know... I used to buy a lot of movies...as of late... NONE... zero... at the most i rent them.. these types of Jails make me not really want to buy anything anymore... I am not downloading them, so I am moving to a different type of entertainment. My ipod is only there to wake me up and I rarely listen to music other than my OLD cds. With all the bullcrap I think that entertainment will take a nose dive. Its a different type of business and I would rather have IPTV and watch what I want when I want for flat rate.
