images/news/nvidia.jpgNvidia is planning to launch its first GeForce 9 series graphics chip, the GeForce 9600 GT (G94), for the mid-range market on February 21, according to sources at graphics card makers. The 9600 GT adopts a 65nm process and is manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). The GPU sees an increase in processing units, 64, and memory bus width, 256-bit, over previous 8600 GTS cards, 32 and 128-bit. The GPU's performance should see an increase of over 40% compared to the 8600 GTS, said the sources.

The new GPU also introduces Dual-Streaming Decode technology which allows two high-definition image decoding processes to be performed at the same time and provides picture in picture (PIP) functionality.

Yeah, during my hours of GPU research :storm: I came across some tests and benches done with it. Looks like it'll blow all the mid-range cards out of the water but fall short of the 8800 series.

Of course, the 9800 should be the bomb diggity. When's that comin? :roadrunner:

I did hear that they would be putting out a 9800 x2 that was like two 8800s on the same card? I think. Man, I've read so many GPU articles in the last few days I don't know what's what anymore. :roadrunner:

I don't know about a possible 9800, but hopefully the 9600gt will be the rebirth of nVidia's x600gt series. 6600gt and 7600gt ruled back then but the 8600gt was a deception in the mid-range cards.

I heard that 9600 that will be released soon, will be Mobile notebook version.. the Pc ones will appear later.

p.s. Why the f@kk they called it 9Series.. come on, this is already getting boring.. 6ths Series, 7ths, 8ths, 9ths series. Geez, change the name..
Like had named server cards - nVidia Tesla.. :roadrunner: Well, name 9th similar..
