images/news/skype.jpgSkype Ltd. again warned users of its software that malicious code targeting the voice-over-IP (VoIP) and instant messaging service was on the prowl, the second such alert in the past five weeks.

A Trojan horse posing as a Skype add-on is stealing log-on credentials, the company's online spokesman, Villu Arak, said yesterday in a blog posting. Calling itself Skype Defender, the malware installs if users download and run the executable SkypeDefenderSetup.exe, then launches to display a mock Skype interface complete with username and password fields. Entering valid information, however, only results in the bogus application claiming, "Your Skype name and password were not recognized. Please check and try again." By that time, the log-on information, usernames and passwords remembered by Internet Explorer have been snatched and sent to the attacker.

Seeing as I would love to find a skype alternative and don't much like some aspects of skype I wasn't really aware of the specifics, I saw that it is an option but no clue what or how really.

Actually you must be a n00b to catch up Skype Trojan/Malware/Viruses Etc.. Usually it is peoples fault who installs all kinds of Skype Mods and or Click on bunch of Links which Spammers provide.. :foldon2km4:

My Friends Caught those Trojans viruses too, but only because of their "Excessive Trustiness" to for other users

Soo, be careful, and trust only people you know..
While Using Mods be aware, 'cause your PC may become open Gate for Malicious code :D, also it refers to Alternative skype clients..

p.s. Almost All instant messengers are quite dangerous to use, they all has lots of Holes that can be quite easily discovered by the Hacker.

so, using IM (or any other tool that uses internet connection), is like smoking, you may get cancer, or you may not (you may be Infected or you may not etc.)..
