images/news/internet.jpgAdvertising-supported companies have long turned to the courts to squelch products that let consumers block or skip ads: it happened in the famous lawsuit against the VCR in 1979 and again with ReplayTV in 2001.

Tomorrow's legal fight may be over Web browser add-ons that let people avoid advertisements. These add-ons are growing in functionality and popularity, which has led legal experts surveyed this week by CNET News.com to speculate about when the first lawsuit will be filed.

If ad-blockers become so common that they slice away at publishers' revenues, "I absolutely would expect to see litigation in this area," said John Palfrey, executive director of Harvard Law School's Berkman Center for Internet and Society.

Ads? What ads? I use Opera and I have no "add-ons" but also no ads, intelli what, don't have that here, pop who? Rarely if ever and only with very few exceptions do I see anything other than what I am looking for and I have nothing for add ons to accomplish this, so unless they can bring down entire browsers this would hold little weight it seems.

I'm like Tweak, I use opera. So no ads or even popups (rarely get them). I use Maxthon2 for stuff I need to do in IE, and don't get many there either. :chrisno:

Can't wait for the web and TV (Tele) to become, truly, one and the same thing so that I can't change the channel when a commercial comes on. After all, that program I'm watching live is also cached in my Cable box for my "On-Demand Viewing Pleasure."

Just wait until you can't make a phone call without hearing an ad in order to "keep costs down." Any cell networks that won't dive into that gravy train?

The start in the states-----> 1-800-FREE-411. 1-800-373-3411. Call it.

Indeed you should, I have none of the intellicrap ads by adding a few addresses to the blocked content pages along with a long list that comes by default which is probably why Opera users aren't bothered by ads and such.

http://*.*.intellitxt.com/*
http:////*.intellitx...txt/front.asp?*

With those two added I see none of the intellicrap. :chrisno:
