Greetings~

Recently i installed Vista Transformation Pack 5.x version...

I seen it mentioned here and figured i would give it a shot .. just to see the "look and feel " of Vista.

I have since unistalled it .. had my fill of the "vista experiance" lol but unfortunately have had the following issues ..after installation

Changing languages for the text for certain icons and blanked out 3 icons in the control panel. ---> Screenie Posted Image

Changing the language for my Hardware tab under System Properties ---> Screenie Posted Image

as near as i can tell those are the ONLY issues im having ..

Steps i have tried to resolve:

Ran SFC /scannow (didnt ask for Cd so im assuming thats all good)

Ran Tweak UI to rebuild icons ( worked for folder and desktop icons that were "transformed")

Clean Registry with a recommened program (Easy Cleaner) to clean out errant Reg Entries..(not much if any found in refernce to the transformation pack and what was fouund were cleaned/fixed)

i DO NOT relish the fact of doing a Repir of Xp ..for 3 reasons...

1) do not have an XP disk as this is a PREINSTALLED version...(Dell Brand Laptop)

2) i use this system for my computer business ( yeah i know the warnings of using 3rd party programs that can modify system files on a "critical use" system) and have a lot of info i DONT want to lose or have to reinstall should something happen in the repair process.

3) No other programs that i have used have caused this problem and it seems UNECESSARY to have to do a repair due to a "glitch" ( for lack of other terms ) cause by one program.

Reg Tweats are not a problem if neccessary as im not afraid ( right simon :talker: ) to delve into that aspect...

Any suggesistions are welcome short of as a mentioned doing a restore or format of system .. unless ABSOLUTLY necessary..

Thanks in advance for any help that can given.

ah, i see someone else ignored the 'warning" just before the install of the trans pack... :talker: i went ahead and reformatted, as i had no data of import (fresh install before the transformation pack went on). best of luck with this :P

Unfortunately these transformation packs modify critical system files to make them work. Sometimes these files cannot be restored during uninstall so the only true way to remove the files is to reformat. If you can't then perhaps performing a "repair" installation of XP might fix the problem.

I agree with Linoman though, DO NOT use the packs unless you really want to keep the changes that the packs make permanetly.

Ahh i had forgotten i started this thread LOL

update ... ended up restoring my stsem back to factory specs .. using the recovery installed on the disk ..

i did manage to save all my stuff ( thankfully) .. and ironcially enough .. a few days BEFORE i installed the Trans Pack i got a hold of Dell .. since i recenly "purchased out" the Laptop that i messed up .. and ordered a copy of the disks for the system..

and about 2 days AFTER i re did the system i got the disks in the mail .. go fig eh ??

oh well crap happens ..

"Repair" installation of the system is an option, but it impacts on software stuff that require post SP-2 updates (unless you have a XP disk with all recent updates integrated).
