An anonymous source in General Motors has confirmed the group's plans to create a competitor to Chrysler's legendary Jeep Wrangler offroader: simple as truth and rugged as a tank. The planned vehicle will possibly join the Hummer family and, hence, will receive the H4 badge.



Although it's not yet known, which platform will be chosen to base the H4 on, the AutoWeek speculates that the Hummer H4 will be a rugged two-seater similar in design to the magazine's Photoshopped 'Hummer Buggy' (pictured). So, it well may be a shortened version of GM’s small pickup platform, which underpins the new H3, the magazine suggests.

The small SUV is expected to be presented to the public in a year or so and will hit the street by 2008 or 2009.
