Some years ago, on my old corvette, the air conditioner needed a little recharge of Freon, so one Saturday, i pulled the vette in the middle of the garage and popped the hood. Now in a Vette, the hood opens backwards, from windshield to the front of the car. all wes going well, and on the second bottle of freon, the high pressure lin blew a hole in it spraying all the freon all over my headers. Now, Freon has a small amount of oil in it plus the fact it was under pressure it sprayed out ice cold. to recharge an aid conditioner, the engine must be running with the air on. When the freon hit the hot header, it caused a great deal of steam and the oil added to it by creating an enormous amount of smoke. Anyways, being it was such a hot day, all the neighbors were outside watering lawns, gabbing with other neighbors etc. They saw all this somke, and thought my house was on fire and called the fire department. Now here i am still inside the garage trging to see thru all this smoke, trying to turn off the air conditioner, trying to figure out what i did wrong, and the fire department comes. I make it out of the garage only to be greeted by about 30 neighbors and the fire department. They advise me that its not a good idea to let my car sit idle like this and to remove it from the garage. I junp in the car, engine already running, and throw it into reverse. i look behind me, not wanting to run over any neighbor and proceed to back out of the garage forgetting my hood was still up. You guessed it, the top of the hood caught the top of the garage door, ripped the hood backwards fiberglass cracking and the nose of the hood bending right into the radiator busting a great big hole in it. Now i have the car out of the garage, the hood half attached to the car bent backwards and still caught on the garage door, smoke and water gushing out of the radiator and about 30+ people and firemen looking at me like i was crazy!!

I calmly got out of the car, wrestled the hood off the garage door, threw it on over the engine compartment, pulled it back into the garage, shut the car off, told everyone to go home, the show was over, thanked the firemen, went into the house and went to bed I slept for 2 days.

I did 6000.00 damage to the car with 2 bottles of 5.00 freon - Now i take my cars in for service
