Can you install 32bit OS on a 64bit system? Yes but it will run at 32bit speed

Will 32bit Software install on a 64bit OS? Same as above, yes but runs at 32bit

Will more applications and drivers for 64bit appear? Definitely, Microsoft and Linux are both supporting 64bit now, come Windows Vista we will hopefully see more action!

Will 32bit eventually be phased out? It will take longer than first thought, but as i say, AMD, Microsoft, Linux and many others are now pushing 64bit and seem to be saving themselves for Vista. Once Vista is widely accepted we will see more happening, for example ready built systems from the store with 64bit Windows pre-installed.

Advantages in 64bit? With certain technolgies enabled, for example on some 64bit AMD chips and Windows XP 64 SP2 its actually more secure than 32bit. Also the performance gain is excellent.
