Open Microsoft office (or any app with the font Wingdings and make it big so you can see) and type the following...

All in capitals type Q33 NY in capitals and tell me what you see....

That is said to be the Flight number of the first plane that hit a tower.

1) New York City has 11 letters

2) Afghanistan has 11 letters.

3) Ramsin Yuseb (The terrorist who threatened to destroy the Twin Towers in 1993) has 11 letters.

4) George W Bush has 11 letters.

This could be a mere coincidence, but this gets more interesting:

1) New York is the 11th state.

2) The first plane crashing against the Twin Towers was flight number 11.

3) Flight 11 was carrying 92 passengers. 9 + 2 = 11

4) Flight 77 which also hit Twin Towers, was carrying 65 passengers. 6+5 = 11 The Twin Towers make an number 11

5) The tragedy was on September 11, or 9/11 as it is now known. 9 + 1+ 1 = 11

6) The date is equal to the US emergency services telephone number 911. 9 + 1 + 1 = 11. Sheer coincidence..?! Read on and make up your own mind:

1) The total number of victims inside all the hi-jacked planes was 254. 2 + 5 + 4 = 11.

2) September 11 is day number 254 of the calendar year. Again 2 + 5 + 4 = 11.

3) The Madrid bombing took place on 3/11/2004. 3 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 4 =11. 4) The tragedy of Madrid happened 911 days after the Twin Towers incident. Now this is where things get totally eerie: The most recognised symbol for the US, after the Stars & Stripes, is the Eagle. The following verse is taken from the Quran, the Islamic holy book: "For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced: for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah and there was peace." That verse is number 9.11 of the Quran.

Microsoft's Response

Thank you for contacting Microsoft with your concerns about the Wingdings font. We can certainly understand how people could be surprised and upset by this apparent issue, and we appreciate the opportunity to set the record straight. The information that has been circulating about Wingdings is an unfortunate Internet hoax that actually dates back nearly 10 years. We share your frustration that this kind of misleading story has resurfaced in the wake of the tragic terrorist attacks on September 11th.

Please note that the national office of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has issued a statement saying "There is no truth to this rumor. Some people are intent on manipulating the Wingdings font to create impressions of hidden meanings or messages that simply do not exist." For more information about the ADL?s views on this situation, please visit the following Web site: http://www.adl.org/p..._75/3921_75.asp and select the section titled "Internet Rumors About Microsoft Wingdings are False." In addition, a prominent online site that routinely debunks Internet hoaxes has reviewed the situation and labeled it a hoax. For more information, please visit the following Web site: http://urbanlegends....blwingdings.htm

This issue was first discovered in 1992. In an unfortunate but totally inadvertent coincidence, when a user types "NYC" in the Wingdings character set, the result is a skull-and-crossbones, a Star of David, and a thumbs-up sign. At that time, Microsoft investigated, and in concert with the Anti-Defamation League, confirmed that the situation had no malicious intent whatsoever and was completely inadvertent.

In addition to the original "NYC" hoax, there are several new versions of this story circulating in email on the web, including one that purports to show that the letters "Q33 NY" translate into symbols showing a plane flying toward two towers (the "towers" are actually not towers at all, but icons of two pieces of paper with text), followed by the skull-and-crossbones and the Star of David. Authors of these emails maintain that "Q33NY" is the flight number of one of the planes that struck the World Trade Center, and have applied "hidden meaning" to its interpretation in the wingdings font. This is false. None of the planes had such a flight number.

Here is the background on this situation. In addition to a number of typefaces, Microsoft Windows supports several symbol character sets. These character sets allow people to insert symbols into their documents, such as arrows, stars, smiley-faces, etc., by typing letters which correspond to various symbols. The letter "A" corresponds to the "peace sign," the letter "B" corresponds to the "OK" sign, and so on.

Unfortunately, it is not technically feasible to change the Wingdings character set. Wingdings are much like an alphabet of characters and provide thousands of potential combinations from which a person could choose. Changing the character set would create an impact of unknown scale on existing data and code using the affected font. Switching around a handful of symbols would cause errors in any existing documents or databases, and could potentially create new unintended combinations.

Once again, we are deeply saddened that this kind of information is circulated on the Internet, and very sorry for any misunderstanding or pain that these false messages have caused. We hope that this information has helped to explain this unfortunate situation.

If you have any additional questions, please let us know by replying to this message.

Thank you,

Chris
