I prefer to buy my software, nothing for me is better than KNOWING its gonna work with everything 'eventually' if not straight away.

Without XP my life would be difficult, i can't fully function for example with Linux and be as open to projects i commit to....even testing software for friends becomes difficult.

Mainly i PLAY with stuff in the windows environment, i found linux very restrictive.

As for Microsoft and Open-Source, all though they will never go entirely open-source i believe they will run some projects to compete with others and gain some market ground, who knows...if they do it right maybe they can stop open-source gaining too much market space and push the products they sell!

i dont think that microsoft would ever go open source with thier products, but i think it would boost thier popularity if they released a few minor open source projects, it may benefit them in being able to get other peoples programming input and techniques into thier software

I didn't mean the whole thing, but i was thinking along the lines of letting some developers play with their source codes and producing some stuff that could put it in the linux line, obviously not better than Windows...

Well see Microsoft sees EVERYTHING as a threat. IF some developer gets a hold of some of their open source there goes paranoia. OHH GOD what if HE makes it BETTER then what we did! You know that kind of stuff... It's more fear of being shown they AREN'T the best. They know it, but no one's came riding along beside them to show them.

It would be nice to see some open source projects from Microsoft, even if it's just in the early stages to download and play with on your own to see what Ideas you can bring forth then submit it to be reviewed, I think it'd be cool!

As for my software, I kind of mix and match, some things I like to KNOW they will work and that they have a good support group behind them, then others I like the features better and I have to subsitute some of the support... although I have noticed that if I need support figuring out how to use a program, it might as well be trash anyway! LOL
