An Interesting article i posted on our portal about Vista

Quote

"I've been defending Microsoft's ship schedule for Windows Vista for quite some time. Up to this point, I've been confident that Vista would be at the quality level it needs to be by RC1 [Release Candidate 1] to make the launch fantastic. Having tested several builds between Beta 2 and today, I hate to say that I no longer feel that way. Beta 2 was a disappointment on many levels. It was nowhere near as stable as it should have been, and was a huge memory hog."

I invite you to read the article HERE and comment on it in this thread

tough call. can't live with it, can't live without it...though i think MS will do a can't live without it (sort of),
and release before it is all "stitched up", but still farther along than an rc2...

Frankly im a little worried. Normally by now i would see a lot of people using it as an operating system for everyday use. But what i see is them installing it, looking at it for a couple of weeks then removing it.

My own experience, i wont use it as a production OS until i can "trust it" and it runs all my software.

i agree, though i ran (as my sole os) x64 xp for ages before it went gold. i only have one app that i "need"
on a somewhat regualr basis (listen rhaposdy, pay-for music). i have enough ram, etc. to weather "hog"
conditions, but still...

Although we all can see progress on Vista development i do think its going very slowly. I 've been running build 5472, that is sensibly better than 5384 in terms of stability, performance and compatibility, but still dont feel confortable to use it as a production enviroment.

On this latest beta2 refresh i was able to install and run most of the softwares i need, including AutoCAD, Corel, Nero, Office ... and some games such as NFSU2, NFSMW... but some things still dont behave as should. If it was a pre-beta 2 build I'd say that Vista is on the right way.

I always defended Vista, and used to say its still a beta when someone pointed out its bugs... but now i have to agree that time is short and many problems are still arround. But in the end of the day I still have some hope on the upcoming RC1. :o

Generally when MS allows an upgrade path, we should be able to run it on a production machine. What i see now in Vista is Either MS is going to rush it out and do the service pack thing (which i truly hope not) or they will postpone it.

Sad to say, but think i've tried all the diff. releases and i don't really see any earth shattering improvements from one to the next. It's gotten to the point now, that i don't even care to install and try them until RC1 comes out, then i'll read the feedback before going to the trouble.
