Ode to the generations days...

#69633 Generations 2.1

Posted Christopholofigus on 31 March 2022 - 12:47 AM

Just built a new 'puter a couple weeks ago...trying to relive the golden days. Went with AMD cuz $$ I've always used 'em when I build. Da stats are:
  • AMD Ryzen 7 5700G 8-Core, 16-Thread Unlocked
  • TEAMGROUP T-Force Delta RGB DDR4 16GB (2x8GB) 3200MHz (PC4-25600)
  • GIGABYTE B550M DS3H AM4 AMD/B550/Micro ATX
  • WD_BLACK 500GB SN750 SE NVMe Internal Gaming SSD Solid State Drive - Gen4
  • Apevia PRODIGY-BK Micro-ATX Gaming Case with 1 x Tempered Glass Panel
I think I need to create a new siggy with all the stats. :christo:

#68335 I think i've found audio nirvana

Posted m.oreilly on 12 August 2013 - 02:08 AM

after re damping the klipsch, and enjoying them, they are just too big for my present desktop location, so i re damped my home made...they now sound awesome, so despite a little increase in volume to make up for the less than 94db response of the towers, i have a very percussive set of home made that are quite nice...
yes, i went against my personal ban of using fiberglass, but it is the perfect damping material for audio diy, and for a decent price. all the other options seem like snake oil/hit and miss...

#69639 Success!!! Dual Socket Huananzhi 8D Hackintosh!

Posted m.oreilly on 22 June 2022 - 06:53 PM

Finally...finally have a successful OpenCore/Big Sur install on this system! I gave up on OpenCore on this box because after many days of trying, I assumed it wasn't possible (several OpenCore promoting sites said it was impossible to get OpenCore to work on this dual socket system...), but after a bit of an online search, I found mention of a Ukrainian based site that said they could do it for a small fee. Hackintosh Expert: https://hackintosh.expert/ worked a miracle! After contacting Stanislau, I was given a link to go to to connect with Denis, who then went about creating a custom OpenCore boot loader for the system. It works. I really love Big Sur, and having the old project box booting to the OpenCore/Big Sur combo is quite a delight.

#69548 PowerMac G5 case mods: reusing the old psu case...

Posted m.oreilly on 19 January 2020 - 01:50 AM

After deciding that I would redo the MacPro case that I had previously posted about, I decided to go for the G5 as the case for an X99/Xeon system that I am piecing together over the next few months. I used the Mountain Mods rear panel and mobo tray combo to get the G5 ready to accept an mATX. I wanted to avoid the wiring hell that I had going on with the Pro case, so I decided to reuse the old PowerMac PSU case, gut it, and strip down a Corsair SFX 600. The guts of the Corsair, placed on standoffs epoxied to the floor of the old case PSU, left plenty of room to hide excess cable while also offering a better overall access to devices in need of power.

the nekid PSU case...

checking for placement. I may have to go with individually wrapped wire as I will need a bit more length on some.

I had some cutting to do re the lid of the PSU. I think I can get away with the top shelf remaining stock as it has wider openings...

Attached Image: IMG_20200118_165725.jpg
OK, top shelf back on. Time to check how it mates with the G5 innards...
I had to pull one of the 80mm fans to get the dingus in...

And here we see the classic fitment, IEC meets the butt of the G5...

As shitty as Vista was (and it was really, really shitty) it at least had DX10 going for it. Crysis looked amazing at the time and was really the only reason I could see to upgrade from XP64bit. Does 8 even have ONE thing positive that makes it worthy as the next MS OS?

I can't bleeping wait until Steam gets their games developed with OpenGL. It's better and will mean one less reason to have to boot to a paid OS.

Um... new taskbar.....calculator.... nope i got nothin..
